Lot 1449 John ‘Chief’ Meyers

Catcher for the New York Giants, Boston Braves, and Brooklyn Robins from 1909 to 1917. He played on the early Giants teams under manager John McGraw and was the primary catcher for Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson. He was a surprisingly good hitter but was overlooked because he was a catcher. He played in four World Series. The 1911, 1912, and 1913 series with the Giants and the 1916 series with the Robins. Ballpoint signature and inscription, “To Bale Gordon all good wishes, John Chief Meyers 1880/1968,” on an off-white 5 x 3 card. In fine condition.
